Apopka woman's 2,700-mile trek on foot finds shared gratitude for troops

It only took 2 1/2 months, 14 pairs of sneakers and a pair of blistered feet for Keela Carr to learn that Americans from coast to coast share her unvarnished support of U.S. troops.
That was the heartening lesson for the Apopka woman, who earlier this month completed a 2,700-mile walk from California to Arlington National Cemetery to salute the troops, her "Journey of a Thousand Thanks."
"The one thing that I really found to ring true across the country is that we civilians love our troops, and we all are so appreciative," said Carr, 35, who was featured in an April Orlando Sentinel column. "Sometimes it doesn't come out in the same way as my appreciation, because there's frustration, hurt and families affected by what happens to our military. But overall, we as a nation stand behind our fighting men and women."
