BOSCAWEN, N.H. — Four veterans whose remains were abandoned were finally laid to rest in New Hampshire’s Veterans Cemetery.

The urns of the cremated veterans had been sitting on a shelf at the Phaneuf Funeral Home in Manchester. After attempts to contact their survivors failed, the remains were buried with military honors Friday.

Although no one picked up their remains, hundreds gathered to see them buried.

The remains of John Bissonnette, Robert Caughey, John Davison and William Mitchell were buried.

Honor guards carried out the full military funeral, beginning with a procession of the urns and reflections on the men. Three were in the Army and one was in the Air Force.
