PEWAUKEE - New information about the man behind a bomb threat at Pewaukee’s City Hall Tuesday: he claimed to have big plans for violence.
Suspect Malcolm Richards, 26, told Pewaukee police he wanted to steal a gun and a squad car and go on a shooting spree.
Richards told officers he wanted to shoot lawmakers in Madison and Washington, D.C.
Richards doesn't fit the profile of a typical criminal. He's a college graduate. He's an Iraq war veteran. His mom told officials he has post traumatic stress disorder.
Richards was in court Tuesday on charges he locked himself in a City Hall bathroom claiming to have a bomb.
We learned Tuesday that the SWAT unit used pepper spray to get him out.

Malcolm is a very good friend of mine. This whole ordeal is very unfortunate. I really hope that he will get the psychiatric help that he needs.
ReplyDeleteI hope they all do. There is no need for all of this pain, suffering and heartache. We have to do so much more to help all of them heal. If not, more will die by their own hand, spread their own suffering into their homes and communities. While most do not go to the extreme of committing crimes, some do and we need to face the fact that they needed and deserved help instead of being left on their own to figure out a way to cope.
ReplyDeleteIf they do commit crimes, the legal system needs to take this into account for true justice. There are many courts across the nation doing that right now. They are giving the accused the option of getting treatment or going to jail. They are holding them accountable but with measured judgment understanding what is behind the action. They are setting up Veteran's Courts so they can deal properly with the unique circumstances of veterans.
