Late for training Friday, dead on Sunday, Army says, won't pay for funeral

What kind of bull is this? He was due for training on Friday. On Sunday he pulled the trigger and killed himself, but the Army says because of this they don't have to pay for his funeral? He went to Iraq twice. He served his country but his country did not serve him too well. How? How is this possible? What kind of rule is this that a two tour veteran, expected to go back again at the age of only 24, will not have his life honored or his service?

Family Devastated Over Iraq Vet's Suicide
Spc. Taylor Feared Being Sent Back To Iraq

POSTED: 4:33 pm CDT June 11, 2008

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A Northland family is mourning a 24-year-old soldier who committed suicide on Sunday night.

Spc. Christopher Lee Taylor was twice deployed to Iraq. Relatives said he feared he would be sent to war again.

"He put a gun to his mouth and killed himself," said Sherry Carson, Taylor's mother.

Carson said she gave up her son for adoption when he was 2. She said she didn't know him well, but she still loved him.

"We had the wake last night so they could cremate him today," Carson said.

Like others who have returned from combat, relatives believe that Taylor was hiding the psychological wounds of war. They believe he feared returning to Iraq more than death itself.

Taylor was a member of the 842nd Quartermaster unit out of Kansas City, Kan. He was due in California for his two weeks of reserve training last Friday.

Because Taylor didn't show up for training, the Army told his family that they won't pay for his funeral. The Army said Taylor has a life insurance policy that would cover his funeral expenses.
