Thank you for visiting the White House Commission on Remembrance Website - The Commission has made some exciting progress with the Gold Medal of Remembrance program, which honors children of men and women killed in the Global War on Terror, our recent Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day Ceremony at the US Capitol and the launch of “Old Glory’s Journey of Remembrance”-a nationwide flag raising effort that culminates on Memorial Day in observance of the National Moment of Remembrance. Over the next several weeks the Commission will be updating our website with new and important materials. During this period of change we ask for your patience and understanding and welcome you to visit the site frequently as we add materials.

America Unites In Remembrance

The White House Commission on Remembrance is an independent government agency whose missions include:

Promoting the spirit of unity and remembrance through observance of The National Moment of Remembrance at 3 PM local time on Memorial Day;

Ensuring the nation remembers the sacrifices of America's fallen from the Revolutionary War to the present;

Recognizing those who served and those who continue to serve our great nation and reminding all Americans of their common heritage.

Will we remember them this Memorial Day? Will we remember all the fallen who died in service to this nation? Will we be able to detach ourselves from the political sides we have taken long enough to acknowledge that the fallen from Iraq did in fact lay down their lives for what this nation sent them to do? Can we do that?

Will we remember those who died as a result of their service from wounds they received in the line of duty? Agent Orange? Depleted Uranium? Post Traumatic Stress Disorder that caused them to take their own lives? Can we do that too?

Will we remember them all enough to vow as of this day, there will be no more excuses for the wounded veterans to have to fight the government because they fought for the government? Will we make sure that all the wounded are provided with the best medical care and the compensation they need to support themselves and their families because they were wounded? Can we do that?

We can do all of the above if we ever want to live up to the claim uttered across the nation when an honor guard kneels to present the folded flag to a family member and passes these words from his lips "on behalf of a grateful nation."
