April 30, 2008, New York - Even after so many tragic final chapters in the lives of so many U.S. military personnel in Iraq or veterans back home, the brutally frank opening line in a newspaper obituary from five days ago seemed particularly haunting: "Donald P. Christy, Lt. Col, USAF, passed away April 21, 2008 in Colorado Springs after an extended bout of anxiety and depression."
Further on, the obit mentioned that in 2004 "Don served a tour of duty as the Deputy Commander at Baghdad Airport in Iraq."
The little-noted obituary does not reveal how Christy died, or exactly why.

People who know what happened feel little remorse for Don Christy. He took his life in response to investigations caused by his own misdeeds while in the service. He was jilted by a woman (fellow service-member) he had an affair with while married. I know there are people who suffer from being in stressful situations of combat. Don Christy was not one of these people. He was being investigated for the third time for inpropieties (and for things I and others find revolting). I am sorry for his children he deserted when he chose his own comfort over theirs. They deserved a better father.

ReplyDeleteI allow them but I really hope my readers take that into consideration when they read something against a person posted like this.
Chaplain Kathie Costos,
ReplyDeleteThe comment made by Anonymous is completely incorrect, it was written by his ex-wife, I knew Don very very well, he was an amazing father, and he loved his children very much, there is much hidden beneath the surface of this story, I hope the truth can be uncovered very soon
I am doing an invesitgation into this story. Do you mind contacting me at Jennarayleigh@gmail.com? You can contact me anonymously if you prefer.
DeleteThank you for the comment. People love to "nail" someone while hiding behind an anonymous name. There are always two sides to any story and you did a good job of showing another side.
