Master-Corporal Anthony Klumpenhouwer, 25, from Listowel, Ontario
OTTAWA, Ontario — A Canadian soldier working with Special Operations Forces in Afghanistan died in a non-combat related incident yesterday.
Master-Corporal Anthony Klumpenhouwer, 25, from Listowel, Ontario, was killed in an accident. The communications technician was working on a tower when the accident occurred.
MCpl Klumpenhouwer is the first special forces member to die in Afghanistan.
Klumpenhower, a member of an elite special forces unit, was killed in a tragic accident when he fell from a communications tower while performing surveillance duties in Kandahar.
One of 13 siblings, Klumpenhower was remembered by his aunt as having bright blue eyes and a "beautiful smile," The Canadian Press reports.
She also described her nephew as a born soldier who was cut out for his chosen profession. She said he originally enlisted with plans to stay short term, but found the military to be such a good fit that he decided to stay on.

There was a full military funeral service in Hamilton, Ont., on Saturday for Canada's most recent casualty in Afghanistan.
Maj. Raymond Mark Ruckpaul, 42, was found in his room with a gunshot wound at the headquarters of the International Security Assistance Force in Kabul on Aug. 29.
Maj. Raymond Ruckpaul died in Afghanistan on Aug. 29.
(Department of National Defence) He died later despite the efforts of medical personnel to save him.
Natasha Ruckpaul, his wife, hugged children Benjamin and Mila at the service.
Ruckpaul's death is still unexplained.
"The matter is under investigation by ISAF authorities and the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service," the Department of National Defence said last week.
Ruckpaul was an armoured officer based at the NATO land headquarters in Germany, serving with ISAF.

Soldier Charged in Death of Corporal Kevin Megeney
CFNIS/SNEFC 2007-012 - October 25, 2007
OTTAWA– The Canadian Forces National Investigation Service (CFNIS) has charged a reserve soldier from Glace Bay, N.S. today, in relation to the shooting death of Corporal Ronald Kevin Megeney, in Afghanistan.
Corporal Matthew Wilcox, a member of the 2nd Battalion, Nova Scotia Highlanders, was charged with one count of Manslaughter, contrary to Section 130 of the National Defence Act, pursuant to Section 236(a) of the Criminal Code, one count of Criminal Negligence Causing Death, contrary to Section 130 of the National Defence Act, pursuant to Section 220(a) of the Criminal Code and one count of Negligent Performance of Duty, contrary to Section 124 of the National Defence Act.
Cpl Megeney was killed on March 6, 2007 in the Canadian tent lines at Kandahar Airfield. Based on all evidence collected, ballistic and forensic analysis completed by the CFNIS, Cpl Megeney was killed by gun fire originating from a weapon allegedly held by Cpl Wilcox.
The CFNIS is an independent Military Police unit with a mandate to investigate serious and sensitive matters in relation to National Defence property, DND employees and CF personnel serving in Canada and abroad.
