NORFOLK, Va. — Newly identified remains of two soldiers from Virginia who died in the Korean War are headed home after nearly 60 years.
The remains are of Army Capt. Edward B. Scullion of Norfolk and Pfc. Elwood D. Reynolds of Danville.
The Department of Defense’s Prisoner of War/Missing Personnel Office identifies the men as members of A Company, 32nd Infantry Regiment, which was then attached to the 31st Regimental Combat Team, of the 7th Infantry Division.
They died in late November 1950 when they were hit by enemy gunfire during a battle against Chinese forces in North Korea.
A joint U.S. and North Korean team doing excavations in the area between 2002 and 2005 found the remains of several servicemen.
Scientists later used DNA and dental analysis to identify the men.
