Maine soldier killed in accident at Fort Polk

FORT POLK, La. — Officials say a 23-year-old soldier from Maine has died in a training accident at Fort Polk, La.
Maine Gov. John Baldacci says the victim is identified as Spc. William Charles Koelsch III, who has family in Maine. He says the victim’s mother, Brenda Lee Koelsch, lives in Fort Fairfield and his sister, Lisa Koelsch, lives in Waterboro.
The accident happened Wednesday, but details weren’t immediately available. Flags will be flown at half-staff on the day of his funeral.
