Sgt. Kyle Dayton death under investigation

DoD Identifies Army Casualty


The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sgt. Kyle Dayton, 22, of El Dorado Hills, Calif., died Dec. 3 in Ashwah, Iraq, of injuries suffered from a non-combat related incident. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

The incident is under investigation.

Another soldier from El Dorado Hills has died in the continuing war in Iraq.

Sgt. Kyle Dayton, a 22-year-old, 2003 graduate of Oak Ridge High School, was killed on Dec. 3, in Ashwah, Iraq, when a vehicle he was driving unexpectedly caught fire, a Dec. 5 news release from the Army's 82 Airborne Division states.

The incident is being classified as non-combat related, the release said. The cause is under investigation.

Dayton joined the Army shortly after graduating high school in 2003 and was assigned to the Second Batallion, 504 Parachute Infantry Regiment, First Brigade from Ft. Bragg, NC.

Dayton is survived by his wife, Nicole, and their son, Sean, of Folsom, and his mother, Linda McLaurin, of Tracy.

Dayton is the second Oak Ridge graduate to die in Iraq. Brad Shuder, a Marine from El Dorado Hills, was killed in an attack in 2004.

Memorial services for Dayton are currently being planned.
